One of the main goals of the Academy has been to spread Chinese culture to the Australian public; not only through our Wing Chun kung fu training and classes, but also through other means such as our promotion of dragon dancing.
This month we launched a new dragon dance workshop, aimed at primary-school aged children, to teach them more about the Chinese culture and its many interesting aspects.
St Louis de Montforts Primary School in Aspendale, and Kardinia International College in Geelong were both receptive to our dragon dance workshops and the children at both schools were enthusiastic about learning more about the Chinese dragon, but even more so with our interactive and hands-on approach to teaching them how to do the dragon dance.
If recent emails and phone calls are any indication, I believe that our dragons will soon be out and about, throughout Melbourne-area schools, all through the year now and not just at Chinese New Year!
WELL DONE to ALL of the students (and teachers) who participated and shared in our initial Dragon Dance Workshops!!!
Learning should be fun and meaningful. This is a wonderful contribution to education and culture. It can only be hoped that lots of schools will avail themselves of this valuable initiative.
