New Zealand Workshop – May 2011

Our Kiwi counterparts on the Kapiti Coast, just outside of Wellington, are doing well and are training hard. The enthusiasm and thirst for Wing Chun knowledge continued on from where I left off with our New Zealand brothers and sisters last November.

Dai Sihing Stu Dunn and Sihing Dean Baines have been working the guys here well since our last get-together, and there were some new faces to go along with quite a few of the early staunch supporters this trip and we all had a fantastic time.

Tweaked some areas here and there, and introduced some new concepts to keep both new and old students happy (and probably confused… at least for a little while). Since my last visit across the Tasman, the Kapiti Krew has added another night of training to their schedule and that’s always a good sign.

We worked on energy development for the newbies, and tried to adjust structures to make both single and double-arm chi sao more efficient and fluid.

Also enjoyed a meeting and dinner with long-time NZ Wing Chun exponent and NZ Chin Woo Association Chairman,  Sifu Peter Yu, which rounded out a fantastic weekend in Wellington.  Click here to catch some of the highlights.

Great job, to all our Kiwi brothers and sisters; keep up the fine efforts!

Easter/Anzac Day Weekend Schedule

Traditionally a long weekend, this year’s calendar has brought the Easter holiday weekend together with the Anzac Day memorial holiday as well.

Students and families are also off on school holidays,  making scheduling for classes at the Academy… well, interesting.

But for those of you who are around this holiday weekend and/or are wanting to keep your training somewhat on-track, we will be running classes on Saturday, 23rd April at 10:30 am  at the Grange Community Centre, in Hoppers Crossing and will resume classes again as from Tuesday evening (Anzac Day),  26th April at 7 pm again at the Grange CC.

There will be NO classes on Easter Monday, 25th April in Werribee.

Children’s classes will resume as from Thursday, 28th April.

All of us at the Qian Li Dao Academy wish you all safe and happy travels for the Easter/Anzac Day long weekend – see you back soon!

Kiwi Kudos

Congratulations to our Kiwi brothers and sisters in the Wellington, New Zealand area! Kiwi Dai Sihing Stu Dunn is celebrating six years of operation as the ONLY kung fu club on the Kapiti Coast on the North Island.

The occasion was noted this week in an article in the Kapiti News :

The two “culprits” responsible for spreading “the word” over there are Dai Sihing Stu Dunn (left) and Sihing Dean Baines (right).

And that’s the “tall and the short of it”!

Keep up the great work, guys – we’ll see you soon!
